We have a small but growing group of children ranging from nursery to primary school age, with a wide range of abilities. Our leaders share one common aim: to teach our youngsters about Jesus, read and understand Bible stories and explore how they apply to us – whatever age we are.
We meet, most weeks in the Drill Hall, Walkers Haugh, Peebles at 11.00am. The young people share the start of the worship with the adults and then move into their room to have fun learning about Jesus. We all meet up again after the service, for juice, biscuits and tea/coffee and to share what we have learned.
We are currently working through material by Becky May called “God’s Story” produced by Barnabas in Churches. This resource contains 36 Bible based sessions for 5-7’s and 7-11’s. This session we are looking at the life of David, Jesus and his disciples and then Easter. During the JAM session we encourage the children to pray for each other, and then apply a range of learning styles for the session including games, story time (using laptop or books), craft, creative play, construction and puzzles.
Regularly throughout the year we timetable in “fun weeks” which may involve a trip to Caldwell’s (ice cream), games on the green, and planting in our church garden. As a church we try to have an annual summer day out, and JAM and families are a big part of this. We also go to the panto or Biggar puppets at Christmas. From May to August we have a monthly church BBQ after the All Age service.
We use materials from SU, and from Becky May’s God’s Story.
